Lokahi, together we can do more and be more? Hawaiian Friends appear to be the kind you need to build relationships with.

One of the dangers I've seen managers fall prey to, and I know I have, is that when the location is out from other locations the manager can feel cut off from everybody else, abandoned, sort of adrift.

I'm finding that is only the case when we're looking down at our feet to see where we are instead of looking out and around, to see others around us looking down at their feet feeling alone and out of the loop. The internet is wonderful for helping managers all over, who are alone, away from the loci of power/attention of their regional folks, a way for those managers to experience Lokahi with people they've never met.

The internet gets a bad rap on the news, but I'm a firm believer that this movement, and we all know the same people, we see the blogrolls... these people are making really big changes in people's lives, positive changes, changes that make differences far beyond the glare of the computer screen. The internet as Lokahi :)

Sorry if I'm butchering the language. I really need to go there and hear it spoken. I've got to find a way to business expense that one. :)

Outstanding Rich! You did not butcher it at all! Lōkahi is unity and harmony, and where that magnificent English word ‘collaboration’ fits like a glove; the universal glove it is, one size fits all!

“Lōkahi gives us a demeanor to strive for in working with our peers in the best possible way… We want their help … many hands make the work more pleasant … ultimately, Lōkahi will help you achieve agreement in purpose and the unity of common intent.”

As your comment came in, I was just hitting send on an email response I wrote to a new Talking Story subscriber who had introduced himself. He didn’t say where in the world he lives or is from (except that it wasn’t Hawai‘i) but it doesn’t really matter; we are now connected, we are now talking story, and we are now Lōkahi. All thanks to the world wide web – I’m a raving fan too!

We need to plan a Skype call Rich; I’ll gladly pronounce all those words for you!

Great stuff Rosa! With aloha, I would add...

FRIENDS: Will loan you a cup of sugar.
HAWAIIAN FRIENDS: Will bring over a bag of sugar and do dishes while you're baking.

FRIENDS: Will mention they saw a great website about a subject that comes up during conversation.
HAWAIIAN FRIENDS: Will send you an e-mail summarizing and linking to places on the website that they think you will find particularly useful.

Yeah Blaine! Great adds! My kitchen is your kitchen - any and every time you want it! Kona coffee always brewing...

Rosa - your trackback reminded me of the fun that was DC. I hope we can find a way to connect in person again in 2007!

I have 2 little additions for your list:

FRIENDS: Will let you know when they're in town so you can get together when they're in town.
HAWAIIAN FRIENDS: Will let you know when they are stateside and take the train an hour or more so you can meet somewhere neither of you have ever been before.

FRIENDS: Enjoy a cup of coffee with you at Starbucks.
BLOGGING FRIENDS: Come to your state to have a cup of coffee, breakfast, lunch or dinner with you and let you post pictures of them on your blog that shows them talking on the phone to other bloggers.

Good ones Phil! Great memories, just begging for an encore... it will happen!
