Played hookey on the Sunday of the Maui Writer's Conference to take the 13-mile hike into Haleakala Crater. We started at the observatory and went down into the crater via the Sliding Sands trail, walked across the crater and then hiked back up the switchbacks. Picked a perfect day: look at the blue of the sky! All I had was a small disposable click and shoot, but luckily another friend had a great Canon digital with him - and a really great eye.
