Perfect Pono Partner: Positive Thinking
This morning I got the most tremendous jolt of energy from a short five minutes in my yard pulling weeds.
The sun was so warm and inviting outside after a night that was pretty cold for Hawai'i, the mountain air where we live chilled by all the snow we have right now on Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa. The two mountains serve up a double whammy on the wind being channeled our way through the saddle between them.
As I pulled those weeds from a bed of succulents in my garden, the sun's slow burn spread through my shoulders and upper back like a stove's quick-response heating element turned to high. It felt great. Looking toward my left, I noticed that one of my favorite citrus trees had survived the wind of the past few weeks, and the tiniest beginnings of calamansi were starting to emerge.
Walking back into the house, I thought about how lucky and how blessed I felt at that moment. How many other people in this world could say that instantly warmed by a January morning sun, they could pull weeds and love the pause that chore gave, while looking up at the beautiful majesty of a snow-capped Mauna Kea?
True, I can't go sledding right now, can't go ice-skating. I can't do a whole bunch of things. But what I CAN do is pretty inspiring. Think positively, appreciate what you can do, and be at your own Pono contentment.
This was one of my favorite past finds on my Talking Story blog: I read it again every so often just for myself, feeling it is such a great thing to know: Believe in your Biology!

Mahalo nui David. It is wonderful how we can bridge the miles with our aloha connection isn't it!
